Wireless communication

KMS-ANT v2 is currently under development to include remote communication between multiple props.

The hardware already includes an external WiFi port and is sold with a standard omni-directional WiFi antenna. The software features an OTA (Over-The-Air) update mechanism for easy updating.

Communication between these props will allow to play Domination with multiple units across your playing field.

Each device will work standalone like before, using wireless communication is not required.

For wireless Domination games at least two props will be needed - one dedicated as a master - to gather and display points from props across the field. Other props are used by the players to interact with.

Proxy props can be used to link together other props further away - this also adds more dynamic into the game with additional objectives to capture and secure these Proxy props for Domination  points to be relayed to the master.

For fields that are large or dense with buildings and trees an external WiFi antenna port is available.

A high-gain WiFi antenna can be installed on the field and connected when needed to a prop at that location. Or the antenna could be mounted on a tripod and aimed at the direction of a  master prop.

Wireless KMS-ANT event protocol can be used to create your own extensions with a simple ESP-based module and ESPHome.

For example to have more sirens around the field, to show various lights according to the prop status or to even show a live scoreboard to teams in the respawn areas.

All of the firmware is public on our Github. Your are welcome to fork it and help us with the development. You can also follow the development updates there.

If you're not a programmer but want to support the development of a standardized airsoft/paintball/gelsoft prop and our Makerspace consider buying a unit.

The complete prop is already for sale on Tindie.
